House of Representatives
Tim Johnson is a career educator whose love of the outdoors brought him to Montana. As the middle child of five born to Dr. Linden and Carol Johnson, he grew up in Minnesota hunting, fishing, camping and working alongside cousins at their dairy farm during the summer. His passion for the outdoors and entrepreneurship naturally led him to start a neighborhood lawn mowing business at age 12, a business that grew large enough to pay his way through college...twice. His work ethic and passion for the outdoors were instilled by his family at an early age.
His childhood experiences and sense of duty led him to pursue an education in law enforcement, with the intent to become a school resource officer. While in the law enforcement academy, Tim realized that he’d rather work with children learning to be adults than work with adults behaving like children. He went back to school and earned a degree in elementary education. He became a middle school math and science teacher for 13 years, teaching grades 5-8 at all levels of mastery, including special and gifted education.
Upon completing his K-12 principal license, he took a job in a rural Montana K-8 district with 100 students. During his time there (four years), Tim worked with the community on innovative solutions addressing diverse student and community needs. Since 2014, he has been the superintendent of a district with over 1,400 students. His commitment to actively support law enforcement led him to volunteer as a Reserve Deputy for the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Department.
His experience in bringing together stakeholders with multifaceted needs and interests makes him uniquely qualified to bring a wealth of problem solving experience to the US Congress. Having been a principal and now superintendent, he understands how to bring communities together and meet the needs of diverse student and community populations.
Tim and his wife Melissa have 6 children, all boys ranging in age from 9 to 20. Their blended family is always on the go. During their free time, you’ll find Tim and Melissa and some or all of the boys outdoors, participating in sports, or cheering for the hometown team at school activities. There’s always an active discussion about the next place to hike or fish, about politics or education, about faith or culture.
Tim’s experience in public education, proven passion for service, work ethic, and knowledge of government processes make him a uniquely qualified candidate. His skill in bringing ideas together and holding to his principles makes him the best candidate for our lone U.S. House of Representatives seat. Together, we can make this happen!
